Noisy Brakes
Brake pads are not forever. They are designed to wear so that your brake rotors can last a long time. People are often disturbed by noisy, squeaking or grinding brakes. Even though brakes often make noise, they represent one of the most robust and durable systems on your car. The more serious cause of brake noise can be brake pads that are completely worn so that the pad backing plate, which is made of steel, is grinding against the brake rotor. When this happens, your brakes will continue to stop the car, but you are damaging the rotor surface. In this case the rotors will need resurfacing or replacement which is an additional cost at brake job time. While brake noise is often a signal that your brakes need maintenance, it is sometimes simply the result of vibration between the brake pad and the caliper which holds them in proximity to the brake rotor. Spongy Brake Pedal or One that Reaches the Floor
A spongy brake pedal doesn’t allow reliable control of the vehicle’s deceleration. In the worst case, a pedal that goes too close to, or all the way to the floor is potentially a more dangerous problem than noisy brakes. Spongy brakes are an indication of air in the brake lines. A pedal that approaches or touches the floor signals that the master cylinder is worn or there may be a leak in the brake’s hydraulic system.
