Battery and Charging System

A modern automobile with its network of computers, electronic ignition, electronic fuel injection, electronic power steering, engine management computer, and in the case of hybrids and EV’s the propulsion and control software themselves, all depend heavily on the electrical system.

For an automobile to run satisfactorily, the battery must apply 12 volts to the engine control module. Each electronic sensor around the engine, and there are sometimes 200, needs a stable operational voltage, which is always a portion of battery voltage. Wrong voltage ranges sent to the engine control unit can result in fuel injection, ignition timing and valve timing errors, as well as mistakes in transmission gear selection, to name just a few. This can happen when the battery and/or the charging system are not functioning properly. For many shops, just knowing whether a problem is battery or charging system related is a daunting problem that ultimately will cost you time and more money.

At ASR we understand the automotive electrical and computer systems. We understand how those systems integrate with your vehicle’s mechanical systems. This knowledge combined with a common sense, logical, diagnostic process means that we will diagnose electrical problems other shops cannot even find, execute a repair and have your car back on the road quickly, with less expense.
